Tapioca pearls give a chewy texture
Classic tapioca pearls are made using tapioca starch. They are a topping, not the tea itself, and their flavour depends on how the shop prepares them. Choose them when you want a substantial chew rather than assuming every small round topping is the same product.
Popping boba has a different centre
Popping pearls hold flavoured liquid that releases when bitten. Their texture differs from starch-based tapioca pearls. Ask which flavours the shop currently offers and whether a drink photograph shows included toppings or an optional addition.
Check what a jelly name describes
Coconut, lychee and other jellies add a different bite. Crystal-style pearls are another menu option, with recipes varying by supplier. A topping name does not provide a complete ingredient list. Ask the shop about the particular product if an ingredient matters to you.
Keep the first combination simple
Choose one texture and check its serving size and charge. For a fruit tea, compare a jelly with popping pearls; for milk tea, consider whether you prefer tapioca’s chew. These are starting points, not rules. Record the topping name so you can repeat or change the order next time.
